Prior to coming to Cal Poly, she taught all levels of graphic design and studio art at the University of Redlands in Redlands, California. She received her B.F.A. in graphic design in 1993 from the University of Notre Dame. Upon graduating from Notre Dame, she began a career as a graphic designer in Chicago, working on wide-ranging projects for educational and corporate clients. In her graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Charmaine combined her studio art interests with her graphic design experience, examining the intersection of commercial and fine art. Currently, her studio practice includes professional design work and mixed media projects, in which she examines consumer culture and the role that material objects play in fashioning identity. |
