After working for different design firms in Portland and Seattle over the last ten years, I've launched my own design business. I freelance and have my own clients. Now that I've seen both sides, I personally prefer working for myself.. the freedom, as well as the variety can't be beat. As much as I enjoyed working for my last employer/friend, it was still working FOR someone. They set the hours, the rules, the philosophy, the culture... of the office. I never thought I would have my own business, but really it happened quite naturally when the time was right. I've also been designing jewelry, ceramics and purses and selling at art fairs. I am currently developing a web site to sell on-line. Professional life has never been so good!
